Business management that clears the way.

Operational reviews, financial planning and growth advisory for US businesses.

Sometimes doing more means fixing what is slowing you down. CMB Core works with owners and management teams to tighten operations, plan finances properly, and get the internal structures right so the rest of the business can grow without tripping over itself.

We do diagnostic and advisory work — not a software implementation in disguise. Our engagements produce written recommendations with priorities, costs, dependencies and timelines you can hand to your team to execute, or that we can support directly.

Our US advisory work draws on the parent group’s UK methodology and accounts for local context: federal and state employment law (Title VII, FLSA, ADA) for staffing reviews, IRS requirements for tax planning, state Secretary of State and FinCEN BOI reporting for governance work, and sector-specific federal regulation where applicable.

What’s included

  • Operational reviews and process restructuring
  • Financial planning, forecasting and scenario modeling
  • Technology advisory and platform selection
  • Growth strategy and market expansion planning
  • Pricing strategy and revenue model reviews
  • Organizational design and team structuring
  • Board and management reporting frameworks

  • Sale or acquisition readiness preparation
  • Performance dashboards and KPI implementation
Methodology

How a Core engagement runs

Diagnose, design, deliver, iterate. The structure is the same regardless of whether the work is a one-off operational review or a multi-year advisory retainer.

Diagnose

Document review (P&L, org chart, process docs, systems list). Interviews with founders, managers and selected staff. Issue mapping with root-cause analysis.

Prioritize

Issues ranked by impact, effort and dependency. Quick wins identified separately from structural work. Written diagnostic report delivered.

Recommend

Specific recommendations with costs, timelines, dependencies and owners. Alternatives considered. Written plan you can act on without us.

Support

Optional hands-on implementation support, governance check-ins, or quarterly reviews. You choose the level of ongoing involvement.

Deliverables

What you actually get

Documented diagnosis, prioritized action plan, financial model and dashboard. Everything in editable form that survives the engagement.

Written diagnostic report

20–60 page report covering findings, root causes, prioritized recommendations, costs, timelines and dependencies. Editable Word and PDF.

Financial model

Three-statement model with scenarios. Built in Excel so your CPA can extend it. Assumptions documented separately so you can edit them.

KPI dashboard

Operational dashboard with the metrics that actually matter for your business. Built on your existing tools (Sheets, Power BI, Looker) — no new software required.

Outcome: Founder reduced personal time on monthly reporting from approximately three days to four hours.
Pro scope

Sale-readiness preparation for a mid-market client

FAQ

Common questions about CMB Core

Are you a substitute for a CFO or COO?
No, but we often complement one. We provide diagnostic and advisory work that helps an existing CFO/COO prioritize, or that helps a founder decide whether they need one yet. Where a fractional executive is the right answer, we say so.
Do you provide regulated financial advice?
No. We are not a registered investment adviser (SEC RIA) and not a licensed CPA firm. Our work covers business strategy, operations, financial planning and management reporting — not investment advice, securities recommendations, audit, attest, or tax filings that would require licensure. We refer to licensed CPAs and RIAs where needed.
How do you handle confidentiality with sensitive financial data?
Standard mutual NDA before any data exchange. Data handled in accordance with the CCPA/CPRA and other applicable state privacy laws. We do not share client data across engagements. Where data sensitivity is unusually high (M&A prep, regulatory matters) additional controls are agreed in writing — restricted-access workspace, named-individual access, and explicit data retention provisions.
Will you replace our existing tools?
Only if there is a clear business case. Our default position is to use what you already have — new software is expensive in license cost, change-management time and risk. Tooling recommendations come with a written cost-benefit analysis, not a vendor pitch.
Do you help with fundraising or investor decks?
Yes — this falls under the Pro tier or as a defined-scope Starter project. We prepare financial models, build investor materials, and coach founders through Q&A. We are not a registered broker-dealer or placement agent and do not take success fees on capital raised.
How is this different from a Big-4 consulting engagement?
Smaller team, senior delivery, fixed price, faster turnaround, and written deliverables you actually own. We are deliberately not trying to compete on scale or on selling implementation services downstream — the diagnostic-and-advisory work is the product.
